>>> OUT OF THE WINDOW, SOMETIMES (Hungary)
Aron starts going to high-school when Hungary is still a People’s Republic and by the time he finishes, it changes smoothly, without a revolution into a republic.
Communism turns into capitalism basically overnight.
When Aron enters the classroom in his new school, the first person he sees is FANNI. Although being the same age, Fanni is already womanly and is obviously the centre of attention of all the boys. Fanni likes Aron but only on a basis of friendship. Romantically she is more involved with the older or more powerful guys. However, soon their friendship turns into love, and although not overnight, mutually but not simultaneously. Firstly Fanni is deceived by the opportunities offered by the profit makers of the new wild capitalism. And by the time she realizes the real value of feelings, she is so tangled up in her relations that she is unable to start anew.
The story begins in 1989 when 15 year-old ARON is transferred to a new highschool and the political and social changes in Hungary are inevitable to come. The interrelation of these two changes, although quite distant in their scope, reveal a thorough insight on the generation that has grown up in the former Eastern European country of Hungary. The story is an attempt to present Fanni as a metaphor for Hungary, and Aron, as the representative figure of the people who let “her” become a dreary place where success yet again is not measured by value.
