6th Krzysztof Kieslowski ScripTeast Award is…

Through the decision of the Advisory Board members: Sandy Lieberson, Manfred Schmidt, Dariusz Jablonski and ScripTeast Heads of Studies: Tom Abrams and Christian Routh, the Award has been made to the script “The Apartments” by Martins Slisans, which was tutored by Head of Studies Christian Routh and Creative Advisors: Alexandra Rossi and Brian Ward.

The Advisory Board explained their decision with the following statement:
„This project proves again the maxim that originality and an unusual way of looking at the world in a screenplay will catch the attention. The Kieslowski award winner of 2012 certainly manages to be refreshingly different. The script manages to deliver the promise of a film that will be distinctive, imaginative, funny, poignant, and at the same time, enlightening, revealing and thoughtful. Most of all we believe that it will be hugely entertaining, and we hope, capable of finding a substantial international audience who will be able to identify with the universally recognizable themes it confronts, albeit in a culturally specific milieu that not many of us are acquainted with.”

The author of the winning script received the statue by Adam Fedorowicz and 10,000 Euros prize money funded by the President of Polish Television Mr Juliusz Braun.

“The Apartments” joined the group of winners of The Krzysztof Kieslowski ScripTeast Award: “The House” by Zuzana Liová, “Womb” by Benedek Fliegauf (Hungary), “Japanese Dog” by Ioan Antoci (Romania) and „The Day of Chocolate” by Jacek Piotr Bławut co written by Anna Onichimowska (Poland), “False Witness” by Iglika Triffonova (Bulgaria)
The Advisory Board also decided to give the 2012 SCRIPTEAST SPECIAL MENTION to the script “0/1” by George Dorobantu (Romania) that was tutored by the Head of Studies Tom Abrams and Creative Advisors: David Matamoros and Jean Luc Ormieres.
„This project proves that great stories need not rely on great budgets or great stars. Imagination, a cyber-hacker and a computer screen are more than enough. The script evidenced exceptional artistry, emotional depth and professional skill.”

The following scripts, representing 7 countries of Eastern and Central Europe were competing for the prize:

Since September 2011, the authors have been working on the scripts with help and advice from the Creative Advisors: Lucius Barre, specialist in promoting international distribution for films from many cultures, worked with Pedro Almódovar, Shinji Aoyama, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, Atom Egoyan, Zacharias Kunuk, Jean-Claude Lauzon, Johnnie To, and Tom Tykwer; and has collaborated with such well- established filmmakers as Lee Chang-dong, Errol Morris, Alain Resnais, Carlos Saura, Volker Schlöndorff and Hiroshi Teshigahara; Gabriele Brunnenmeyer, for many years Artistic Director of East-West-Coproduction Market Connecting Cottbus at the FilmFestival Cottbus, consultant for script development, packaging and project presentation, organiser of many workshops for directors and screenwriters in Germany; David Matamoros, Spain-based writer, director and producer in Zentropa (Swimming, Ingrid, The Damned), he also directs the master on marketing and cinematographic distribution for ESCAC; Jean-Luc Ormieres, producer, tutor and writer, in the recent years attached to productions of: The Last Station, Sophie Schoukens’s first feature Marieke, Marieke, White, White World and a feature documentary Would You Have Sex With An Arab?; Tobias Pausinger, consultant for film festivals, sales and educational institutions, currently Creative Advisor at Leuphana University working researching the transformations associated with interactive communication platforms.; Alexandra Rossi, Development and Acquisitions executive most recently at Paramount Pictures, participated in acquisitions of titles such as Pan’s Labyrinth, Vera Drake andDancer in the dark, among others; Brian Ward – British screenwriter (“The Interpreter” starring Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn, directed by Sydney Pollack).

ScripTeast was created by the famous Polish director and producer Dariusz Jablonski, in collaboration with his closest associates, producers: Violetta Kaminska and Izabela Wojcik. Together, besides wide international production activities through their companies Apple Film and Avocado TV, they created the Independent Film Foundation, which promotes ambitious films and its authors in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe.

ScripTeast is organized by the Independent Film Foundation and supported by Media Program of EU, Polish Film Institute, Polish Television and Apple Film Production, in cooperation with the European Film Academy, the ACE Program, Producers Network, Final Draft, Film New Europe and festivals in Berlin, Cannes and Karlovy Vary.
